Making a 3 bedroom house into a 5 bedroom family home

It is very easy to outgrow your home, with most families never being fully content in their home and becoming complacent of the space they have. Moving to a new house can seem like an easier option, but this can take a lot of time, it can be very expensive and very stressful. Renovating your house and choosing to invest in your property and future is easily achievable, and in the long run can be less disruptive to a family.

Superb Refurb was hired this summer to transform a three bedroomed detached house in Radlett to a much bigger and brighter family home, giving them all their own space. The current layout was fine, but the family wanted to create a better space downstairs, utilising all areas, making one that would be perfect for entertaining, mixed activities and family time, plus extending the space upstairs to include an additional two bedrooms. This project is being achieved by us in two phases, with phase one having just been completed.

Previous work on the downstairs was assessed and phase one saw the ground floor being stripped back and the current eight rolled-steel joints (RSLs) being upgraded for stronger versions, in preparation to support the additional renovations of the first floor. The original space in the kitchen/family room was a bit dark and awkward, therefore we took down a large structural wall and opened it out to create a huge, bright open-plan kitchen, dining room and family den. The team also created the most beautiful lounge area, perfect to be toy-free and (almost) adult only. The downstairs space is just perfect for any busy family. A space not only perfect for entertaining in, at any time of the year, but also one perfect for relaxing in as a family.

Phase two is due to start next year, which begins with taking the entire roof off and raising the walls in the loft by approximately 120cms. This will add an additional floor to include two double bedrooms, both with en-suite bathrooms. Once phase two has been completed, the family will have a beautiful large three-storey house with four bathrooms, five bedrooms, and a stunning lounge leading on to an amazing open-plan kitchen/dining room/family den.

Be sure to keep an eye out on our blog when phase two is completed, and updates of the other projects we are working on.
