Converting an unused loft into a new bedroom and snug area
We are very proud of our recently completed project in Stotfold, Bedfordshire.

Our customer wanted to utilise their unused loft space and create an additional bedroom and secret snug area with its own entrance door. We love it when a customer gives us something unusual to create, and we really enjoyed this challenge, giving us an opportunity to be creative.

On the first floor, we created a new corridor, leading to a door that was originally a cupboard. We knocked this through to create a bigger space and then built a flight of stairs, taking you up to the loft space. The client suggested lighting the handrail up the new stairs, so we added a strip of LED lights. Such a brilliant and simple addition. And if that wasn’t enough light, we added a beautiful Velux skylight above the stairs for sunny days and stargazing.

On the left-hand side at the top of the stairs is the newly created 4th bedroom to the house. With windows at either end of the room, there is a lot of light, making the space feel enormous. With the smooth walls and fluffy carpet, this room feels like a cosy and warm bedroom.

And on the right-hand side of the stairs is the secret snug, accessed through a hobbit-type door! Whilst this room is not regulated (meaning this house cannot be listed as a 5-bedroom property) this space is versatile enough to be a dressing room, a TV room, a games room, or just somewhere to play hide n seek in (or just hide from the kids in!) With a beautiful bright window, it again, feels roomy and spacious.

Radiators have been added to both rooms, as well as roomy eaves storage, separated from the main space by handy little doors. To complete the job, we painted and decorated the stairs from the ground floor upwards, ensuring a seamless and beautiful finish.

And it doesn’t end there! To appease the outside eye, we also reclaimed some roof tiles to ensure a consistent look with the rest of the building, also giving the impression that the conversion was always there.

We pulled together a brilliant team and worked over 10 weeks to get the job completed.

Upon completion, our customer said, “I am so impressed with the space and the nice, clean finish. Special thanks to the site foreman for all his hard work and attention to detail”.
